Nervous System Class Offerings

 Taught by Lizzie Hearne, LMBT NC #3892 ​

1. Alert to Reset — Understanding Your Nervous System
 Introduces the nervous system scale and helps participants recognize patterns of activation, strain, and shutdown. Builds awareness of how to move from alert to reset. 

2. The Brain & Body During Stress 
Explains what happens in the brain and body under stress, including rapid activation and shutdown. Participants create a personal stress barometer. 

3. Accumulated Stress 
Explores how stress builds over time and impacts the body and behavior. Teaches how to recognize and release stress before overwhelm. 

4. Freeze Response 
Focuses on shutdown, numbness, and avoidance. Helps participants understand freeze as protection and reconnect safely. 

5. Boundaries — Creating Safety Without Shutting Down 
Teaches boundaries as a nervous system function, helping participants find flexible, semipermeable boundaries. 

6. Co-Regulation — When They Go High, You Go Low 
Teaches how to stay grounded and help regulate others without matching escalation. 

7. Staying Present Without Burning Out 
Builds the ability to stay engaged without absorbing stress or emotional load. 

8. Emotional Support vs Emotional Responsibility 
Clarifies how to support others without taking on their emotional experience. 

9. Somatic Therapy — Working With the Body
 Introduces somatic therapy and body-based tools for stress regulation. 

10. Micro Resets — Quick Nervous System Tools 
Provides fast, practical techniques for real-time stress regulation. 

11. Night Reset — Preparing the Body for Sleep 
Teaches how to transition from alert to rest with a realistic power-down routine. 

12. Mindset — The Power of Yet 
Shows how small shifts in thinking impact the nervous system and behavior. 

13. Eating Under Stress 
Explains how stress impacts digestion and teaches how to eat in a more regulated state.

15. Habit Change Series — Building Sustainable Change 
A multi-part series integrating habit science with nervous system awareness to create lasting, realistic change. 
  •  Why Habits Fail Under Stress Reframes habit failure as a nervous system issue, not a discipline problem. 
  •  Make It Obvious — Awareness & Triggers Builds awareness of habit loops and how stress impacts recognition of triggers. 
  • Make It Easy — Lower the Barrier Teaches how to reduce resistance and create habits that work even in stressed states. 
  • Make It Repeatable — Consistency Over Intensity Focuses on repetition and predictability to build habits through nervous system learning. 
  • Get Back on Track — Reset, Don’t Restart Eliminates all-or-nothing thinking and teaches how to recover habits after disruption. 
  • Habits & Identity (Advanced) Explores how identity shifts depending on nervous system state and influences behavior.
