Therapeutic Cupping
The Center for Holistic Healing is excited to now offer Therapeutic Cupping!
What is cupping and why does it sometimes bring dark circles to the skin?
Cupping employs suction to the body using glass, plastic or silicone cups. This suction creates negative pressure, and it brings blood flow and energy-Qi-to stagnant muscle tissue. The application of cups releases rigid soft tissue and loosen adhesions in the fascia and connection tissue, resulting in diminished pain and inflammation, greater range of motion and it stimulates the body’s own healing processes.
Cupping can leave behind temporary discolorations (not bruises). If there is an injury under the skin, deep in the muscle fiber, it results in stagnation and lack of circulation in the area. Suction cups pulls the toxic and stagnant energy from deep in the tissues to the surface of the skin. Bringing up the stagnation allows for healthy circulation to be restored to the affected area, allowing for nutrients, cells and oxygen for faster recovery.
What kinds of disorders does cupping treat?
Cupping therapy is remarkably effective for back and neck pain and stiffness, frozen shoulder and knee pain. Cupping helps to relieve the discomfort associated with scoliosis and sciatica, and can help to heal carpal tunnel syndrome and plantar fasciitis. Small cups are employed on the jaw and face to benefit and relieve TMJ disorder, migraine and acne. The small cups are also used for facial rejuvenation (lifting and plumping the cheeks, sagging jowls, and helps erase fine lines). Cupping is also effective for reducing the dimpling and disfiguration from cellulite deposits
Cupping also stimulates the lymphatic system, improving circulation and removing toxins that causes lingering cold, bronchitis and other lung conditions. Abdominal cupping therapy can clear up constipation and lessen the attacks on digestion associated with IBS-Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Disorder.
At our acupuncture clinic, cupping therapy is used in conjunction with acupuncture to work on levels that go deep. It is safe and comfortable, and most responses from clients who receive cupping range from a deep feeling of relaxation, to feeling bright and energized. Cupping can be used alone if one is sensitive to needles. We use only cups on the acupuncture points and along the meridians to assist in healing and balance.
